Bio
Eric Spaeth
I was born in 1964 in Washington, DC and have lived most of my life to date in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I currently live. An architect by trade, I am largely self-taught as a painter. I have also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with artists including Lou Sloane, Douglas Martensen, Larry Frances, Ron Wyffels and Al Gury, and I have often painted in the model studio of the Woodmere Art Museum. I started painting, extracurricularly, as an undergraduate at Yale College, where I was inspired by the collections of the Yale Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art. I have been influenced by a legacy in the arts passed down through both sides of my family, which for at least five generations has included amateur or professional painters, sculptors and musicians. After working for more than a decade with the Philadelphia design firm of Voith & Mactavish Architects, I left in order to pursue independent projects and interests here and abroad. I returned in May, 2005 from living for three months in Paris.
